How we check prices
Since February 2026 every UK forecourt has had to report price changes within 30 minutes to the government's Fuel Finder scheme. Anyone can use that data. What matters is what you do with it before it reaches the page.
Where the data comes from
Prices, addresses, opening hours and facilities all come from Fuel Finder, run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero under the Motor Fuel Price (Open Data) Regulations 2025. We check it every 15 minutes and fetch everything again once a day.
Every price shows when it last changed
Each forecourt reports the time it changed each price, and that's the time we show. We never stamp a price with today's date because we looked at it today. A price that hasn't changed in a while is not necessarily wrong. Plenty of forecourts hold a price for a week or two. But you should be able to see that and decide for yourself.

- Unchanged for more than 30 days. We still show it, dimmed, but it can't rank as cheapest and isn't counted in any average.
Pounds, pence and typing errors
The feed sometimes gives a price in pounds (1.729), sometimes in pence (172.9) and sometimes in tenths of a penny (1729). We convert them all to pence. Then we hold a price back if it's below 90p or above 350p, or if it's more than 20% below or 35% above the UK middle price for that fuel. A forecourt with a held-back price still appears, with a note explaining why.

No JavaScript needed
Every price is in the page itself, not loaded afterwards by a script. The page works on a slow connection, with scripts turned off, and for search engines and AI assistants reading it.
EV charging
Fuel Finder doesn't cover electric car chargers. Ours come from Open Charge Map, updated daily. We link a charger to a forecourt when it's within 150 metres. Each charger listing shows when it was last checked. Operators are required by law to publish live availability, and we plan to add those feeds network by network.
What the feed doesn't cover
Fuel Finder doesn't include ATMs, shops, HGV access or disabled access, so neither do we yet. Air and screenwash are reported as a single item. Car washes aren't split into automatic and jet wash.
Spotted a wrong price?
The forecourt is responsible for the price it reports. You can report a wrong price to the government through Fuel Finder.
